This visa is ideal for individuals who plan to visit their children or grandchildren for extended stays.


Eligibility Requirements for the Super Visa

To qualify for a Super Visa, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  1. Relationship:
    • Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Invitation Letter:
    • Provide a letter of invitation from your child or grandchild in Canada.
    • The letter must include:
      • A promise of financial support for the duration of your visit.
      • Details of your relationship.
      • A list of household members of the host in Canada.
  3. Income Requirements:
    • The child or grandchild must meet a minimum income threshold based on the number of family members.
  4. Health Insurance:
    • Purchase private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that:
      • Covers you for at least $100,000 CAD.
      • Is valid for at least one year from the date of entry.
      • Includes proof of full payment (not quotes).
  5. Medical Examination:
    • Complete an immigration medical exam to demonstrate admissibility.
  6. Additional Requirements:
    • Prove strong ties to your home country, such as family, finances, or employment, to ensure you will leave Canada after your visit.
    • Show that you have sufficient funds for your visit.

How Long Can You Stay in Canada?

The duration of your stay depends on when you applied for the Super Visa:

  • Applications on or after June 22, 2023:
    • Super Visa holders can stay for up to 5 years per visit.
  • Applications before June 22, 2023:
    • You can stay for up to 2 years per visit.

Regardless of the date of your application:

  • Ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your stay.
  • Maintain or renew your health insurance while in Canada or upon re-entry.
